Oskar Kozłowski – The Cinematic Eye That Sees Beyond
Some say cinema is magic; others call it pure craftsmanship. Oskar Kozłowski masterfully blends both. As a cinematographer, director, and producer, he has spent years shaping his own cinematic reality—where light, shadow, and camera movement don’t just capture a story but pull the audience deep into its emotional core.
The Beginning – 35mm Film and Legendary Names
In a world dominated by digital pixels, Kozłowski’s journey began the old-school way—on 35mm film. His graduation film, The End of the Season, completed at the Warsaw Film School in 2009, premiered at Camerimage, a festival that recognizes only those who truly understand the art of cinematography. Straight out of film school, he collaborated with Polish cinema legends Agnieszka Holland and Magda Łazarkiewicz on a prestigious project promoting Warsaw—one that went on to earn a nomination for the European Capital of Culture.
Hollywood, Theater, and Finding His Signature Style
2010 was a turning point. Kozłowski worked on a Hollywood set alongside Michał Dąbal at the American Film Institute, absorbing the essence of big-budget filmmaking. Soon after, he explored theatrical lighting design at the Polish Theatre, bridging the gap between film and stage. This period marked the beginning of his journey as a visual storyteller who moves seamlessly between film, advertising, and music videos.
Building a Cinematic Identity – Awards and Creative Vision
His work quickly gained recognition, winning awards at international film festivals. One of his early projects, Umbra, directed by Urszula Nawrot, was honored for Best Cinematography in Los Angeles and Las Vegas and later became part of the Polish arthouse cinema circuit.
At the same time, Kozłowski was making waves in the commercial world. He directed and produced ad campaigns for Microsoft, political campaigns broadcast nationwide, and government-backed projects that reached millions.
A Global Perspective – Colombia and New Inspirations
In 2013, he left Poland for six months and headed to Bogotá, Colombia, where he worked on a documentary project for Red Bull. He also directed music videos for international labels such as Magdalena Music (Colombia) and Meon Music (UK). This period added a new dimension to his creative perspective, infusing his work with a fresh, international aesthetic.
From Cult Film Crews to Millions of Views
Upon returning to Poland, he joined the cult film collective Sky Piastowskie, collaborating with Grzegorz Lipiec on a series of commercials and music videos. Over the next few years, his music video portfolio exploded, featuring projects for some of Poland’s top artists—including Quebonafide, Natalia Nykiel, Happysad, Ten Typ Mes, Katarzyna Nosowska, Afromental, and many others. His visuals became a signature element of Poland’s contemporary music scene, with millions of views on YouTube.
Television, Crime Series, and Major Productions
In 2017, Kozłowski made his television debut as the cinematographer for the first season of the TVP1 documentary series Veterinarians with Heart. From there, he quickly expanded into major Polish TV productions, working on three seasons of Ślad, a crime series for Polsat, as well as top-rated shows for TVN Style, Canal+, Discovery Channel, and TVP.
His commercial portfolio also skyrocketed, shooting campaigns in Moscow, Barcelona, and Warsaw for the fashion brand Ozonee.pl, along with premium advertising projects for Japan Tobacco International.
Cinema as Both Art and Craft
2020 was another milestone year. Kozłowski’s cinematography in The Last Chord, directed by Franciszek Siwko, received multiple international festival awards, including Best Cinematography at festivals in Amsterdam and Birmingham. The film premiered on Canal+, solidifying his reputation as a filmmaker with both artistic and commercial appeal.
In 2021, his company, OK Film Production, produced the pilot episode of The Devil of Łańcut, a historical drama that surpassed one million views on YouTube—proving that audiences crave high-quality storytelling.
Expanding into Advertising, Fashion, and High-End Productions
By 2022, Kozłowski was at the helm of high-budget commercial productions, including a flagship campaign for luxury fragrance brand Profumo Labo. That same year, OK Film Production deepened its collaboration with Film Fiction, setting the stage for even larger-scale projects.
Then came 2023—a year dominated by major advertising collaborations. Kozłowski’s team delivered over 15 high-profile commercial productions for global brands like L’Oréal, Adidas, PZU, Vasco Translation, Pyszne.pl, and more.
Oskar Kozłowski – A Visionary Behind the Lens
From festival circuits to high-impact commercials, from cinematic storytelling to mainstream television, Oskar Kozłowski’s journey is a relentless exploration of visual storytelling. His work isn’t just about capturing striking images—it’s about creating emotions that stay with the audience. And as his career continues to evolve, one thing remains certain: the best is yet to come.
